Can I sue over a layoff?

My former boss had me laid off supposedly due to budget cuts. He would always tell me that no one there liked me and that I wasn't adding any value to the company being there. He would always have lunch with everyone else at the job but never me. Less than 6 months later, he hired someone else. Do I have any legal claim against my former company?
